Huldah's 2025 Winter Newsletter
Preparing for Winter’s Crossing
The glowing days of autumn is passing and winter is approaching. Now is the time to prepare for winter’s crossing. That is what we will focus on in this edition of Huldah’s Hoodoo Newsletter.
I hope you are staying warm and taking care of yourself. Winter is the season for giving yourself rest, and support for good health both spiritually and physically. Take time each day to do something good and beneficial for yourself. It can be a simple cup of coffee or tea cuddled up in your favorite blanket. You owe yourself this goodness.
Why This Winter is Different
The physical season of winter begins on Sunday Dec 21, 2025, 10:03 AM Eastern Standard Time. However, the spiritual season of winter has already begun. This year, winter is different because we will each find ourselves at a unique spiritual crossroad. It’s a crossover between 2025 and 2026 and signals that significant changes, more than usual is on the horizon. This is not your standard change of year but a wholescale coming change in the world we live. Take advantage of this massive change to protect, bless and intersect with new paths forward.
CATCHING THE SUN ON NEW YEARS DAY!
This Year’s Crossover Requires Powerful Roots
There are three powerful roots I hope you can obtain and utilize during this month of December and through the end of January. These will help you get through winters crossing finding your way from 2025 into 2026. I’ll show you how to make a special Hoodoo soap for the occasion, how to carry a powerful root for protection, transformation and chewing a root for guidance and victory. Are you ready to get started?
Dandelion Root
Dandelion root is master of adversity due to it’s extraordinary will to survive in any circumstance, it’s ability to put down deep taproots that can go 15 feet into the ground, its ability to produce up to 20,000 seeds a year, it’s solar powered flowers. It is a juggernaut of power! It’s flowers open and close with the rise and setting of the sun. It is very similar in spirit to High John the Conqueror, I almost want to call it the feminine version of Uncle John. You will need it's mighty strength to cross into the new year.
Osha Root
Due to it’s ability to withstand and thrive in harsh conditions at high altitudes it’s primary spirit is resilience. Use Osha root when you need spiritual guidance along with protection, improving your luck and spiritual cleansing. Osha holds your hand as you go through the desired results. Use it when you are not feeling confident, when you want to improve your luck but don’t know how and when you need a gentle spiritual cleanse that gives you a spiritual covering or when you feel the need to gain more wisdom. Keep this root close this month and January.
Little John Root
Galangal (also known as chewing John or Little John) is a cousin to the spicy ginger plant. Except it doesn’t have the ultra-spicy pepper flavor. What we call a root is actually a rhizome that looks very similar to ginger and has been used in ancient medicines since ancient times. Use Galangal root when you need protection from authorities, when you need a change in circumstances, strength to conquer, favor in conflicts and a boost of energy in your work or life. Learn to like the taste of Little John this month.
Huldah’s 2026 New Years Crossroads Soap
As we begin to move into 2026, I recommend that you do a special spiritual bath to help cleanse the way but also build on new protection. Use Dandelion root with either Osha or Little John root, you can use all three if you have them. If you only have one of these, use it.
1. Use about half a cup of the roots in 1 cup of water. Heat on the stove and bring to simmering, not boiling. Turn the heat off, cover the pot and let this sit for about 1 hour. This is a Hoodoo infusion, not an herbal tea infusion. We want to safely extract the spirit of the plant and make it strong. 2. Use either a new soap bar or leftover soap scraps. You will need to grate the soap and have at least 1 cup. 3. Using a double boiler (small pot inside a slightly larger one) add the grated soap and the strained root infusion. It’s okay if bits of root is in the mixture. Heat and stir until the soap has melted and is smooth. 4. Pour the melted soap into a mold. Your mold can be the box a bar of soap came in, use wax paper as a lining. It can be an old small jewelry gift box or bottom of a cardboard tea box.5. Let this sit for at least 4 days before using.
On New Years Day morning, cleanse yourself with this soap from head to toe, using downward strokes to wash away residue from 2025 and to put on protection for 2026. If possible do this right before sunrise. Save some of the used wash water and cast it towards the east speaking protection, blessing, guidance in the new year.
Carry the Dandelion Root
Cross the new year with a piece of dandelion root to give you power and strength to overcome any obstacles 2026 might bring. Nick the root with a knife, enclose it in piece of cloth and tie on a string around your neck. Wear hidden under your clothes throughout December and January. You can also drink tea made with the root to give you strength both spiritually and physically.
Chew Little John Root
You probably already know about chewing Little John (Galangal root) for legal and court cases, but did you know that it can also be done while going through changes such as the major transition from 2025 to 2026. Throughout the months of December and January chew a little Low John root to help you through personal changes in your life. If you live near an Asian grocery store you can find galangal root fresh, giving you more power.
Moon Phases for December 2025
Take Advantage of the New Moon on the 20th
Plant your spiritual seeds for next year during the new moon on December 20th. For those of you who have the Hoodoo Basic Training book, follow the instructions to make a Hoodoo circle. Write a petition for what you are hoping for in 2026. Place this petition in the center of your circle with a candle on top. Surround the candle with personal items, things symbolizing what you need and desire. You can also place your dandelion, Low John and osha roots in the circle. Give this ritual your spiritual expression and don't forget to include protection for 2026. Speak over your Hoodoo circle and ask the ancestors to bless it with power to guide and manifest. From the night of the new moon light the center and four directional candles every night and speak what you desire in 2026. Be sure to do this after sunset. Continue this ritual until the evening of January 2nd.
A Special Ancestor Offering
Don’t forget to remember your ancestors during December and January, taking time to provide them a special offering of thanks. Your offering doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate, unless you’d like to do this. I know money is tight for a lot of people this season. You’d be amazed at how meaningful simple offerings can be such as candy, shot of liquor, tobacco, spray some of your favorite perfume around your altar in tribute to your mother spirits, provide a shot of liquor, a cigarette, cigar or snuff as tribute to your father spirits. A bowl of greens, okra, corn, butter beans, cornbread with butter, are sure to please them because these are the type foods they loved while on earth. You don’t have to make or purchase a whole cake, give them a slice of red velvet, coconut or other old fashion cake. If all you have is a fat juicy tomato, slice it up with an onion and offer this. Sometimes it’s as simple as whatever you eat, they eat. The goal is to provide a special offering of thanks as many times as you can during December and January. Give thanks and love to your ancestors!
