Find Your Hoodoo Power this Summer
This summer is all about finding your Hoodoo power. Here is a ritual to help you. After sundown spread a white sheet on the floor in a safe and private space. Choose your favorite spiritual music that touches your soul. Find the biggest, fattest pillar candle you can and place it on a plate in the middle of the sheet. Sprinkle salt on the sheet. Create a foot path around the candle with fresh green uplifting herbs like mint, cilantro, basil, rosemary all of which can be found in your grocery store. Walk counterclockwise on the foot path you have made around the candle asking the Creator to reveal your power and strength. Keep walking for as long as you can, it’s okay to take breaks to keep from getting dizzy. Throughout this summer do this ritual to help tap into your power. Every time you do this, afterwards, be open to receiving signs and messages from the Creator. Take your time and walk slow so you don’t trip. This ritual is very empowering. In the 2025 Hoodoo Almanac on pg. 55 I wrote, “We will find our position of strength in this year. The power within us fortified with the spirit of our ancestors. Make this summer a powerful one.
Make Your Own Van Van Oil
Try Huldah's Simple & Easy Formula
Van Van oil is an old traditional Hoodoo oil born out of Louisiana and the gulf coast areas where citronella thrives in the warm climates. The oil is used to keep bad luck off of you in all aspects of your life such as money, finances, romance, business and games of chance. Early Van Van oils were made with lemon rinds, citronella, bergamot, roses and pine. Through the years other ingredients such as palmarosa, patchouli and lemongrass have become more popular.
You can make your own Van Van oil with these four simple ingredients. You can use the dried herbs and/or essential oils for a more potent Hoodoo oil. I recommend using a mixture of herbs and essential oils. I also recommend using Advocado oil.
1 part Lemongrass, Citronella, Palmarosa, Vetiver to 3 part oil. Adjust to your liking.

Keep those Dang Mosquito's Off!
Try this easy formula from Huldah
The mosquito’s will be out for the hunt this summer. Here is a natural mosquito repellent you can use to help keep them away. This might not work for the vicious mosquitos down in southern Florida and Louisiana, those mosquitoes are tough! In a jar add about ½ cup of lavender, dried lemon peel and mint. Cover this with advocado oil, just enough oil, don’t fill the jar up. Sit this in a cool dark place for about 2 weeks. After two weeks, strain and place in small oil bottles. Take one with you everywhere you go and if mosquitoes start attacking rub some of the oil on your skin to keep them away.
Save those Fruit Seeds for Hoodoo Work
Summer is the season for eating delicious fruits. Save the seeds and use them in Hoodoo work. Rinse them to remove any fruit, lay them on a plate to air dry. Might take a week to dry. Store them in a dark cool and dry place. Use them in mojos, burning rituals, jar spells and new moon works.

The Rhythm of Mojos
Some years ago, I made a mojo for a good friend, they wanted one for gambling because they loved to play the slot machines at the casinos. It was a very plain, small and simple gambling hand that I made for them. Afterwards, I didn’t hear anything else and forgot about it. One day my friend told me they lost their gambling hand and asked if I could make them another one. They revealed that from the moment they received the mojo bag, they had been on a winning streak. This is an example at how mojos such as those for gambling, money and prosperity often work like the tides of the ocean and phases of the moon, with periods of increase and decrease, ebb and flow. It is for this reason that you have to take time and bond with mojo’s to learn their sacred rhythm of power and use it for your advantage. Learn the ebb and flow of power or seasons of your mojo.
Hoodoo Tip for Summer
Pay attention to lightning during the summer rain showers. Lightning can bring messages, depending on it’s circumstances. Lightning strikes means betrayal by someone you know. Lightning in the west means disruption is coming. From the south means delays and setbacks. Dark scary clouds and sky foretell disappointments and/or loss is on the horizon. Lightning above your head foretells good luck is on the way. Next time a storm approaches watch the lightning to see if it has a message for you.
