Huldah's 2026 Spring Newsletter
It's Time to Rise Like the Sun!
This spring is your time to shine, rise above your struggle, grow stronger and wiser. No matter what the season brings, keep pushing and striving to go higher.
What Mary McLeod Bethune Can Teach Us About Spring
Mary was born into a family of seventeen children to former enslaved in Mayesville, South Carolina. Before becoming famous as an educator, philanthropist, humanitarian, womanist, and civil rights activist, she had humble beginnings. In her younger years Mary had struggled to open a small schoolhouse for black children in Daytona, Florida. She used a little of nothing to foster impactful change for black children. She made benches and desks out of old wooden crates. She made ink for writing from elderberry juice and pencils from burned wood. She raised money by selling homemade sweet potato pies and ice cream to local workers, purchasing additional land from the city dump where her school was located. She overcame her struggles and eventually not only had a school for girls but opened one for boys as well. Yet, these years were her season of spiritual spring, starting with almost nothing, growing to make a big difference for the children in her community. We can learn from her to be humble, start small in our season of spring, be grateful for what we have and use it to achieve even greater things.
You Need Something a Little Different for This Spring
For this spring season of 2026 I recommend Burdock root, Hyssop and Golden rod. You can combine all three into one powerful spiritual bath. The three can be burned together allowing the smoke to cleanse and empower your personal space. You can also use a little of each to make a small root bag to wear around the neck and tucked under clothes. I strongly recommend you keep all three on your ancestor altar during this season.
Burdock Root
Burdock root is needed for cleansing the mind, body and spirit of residual negativity removing past spiritual baggage so you can move more freely in the new season. It also creates a spiritual boundary around you for protection. Burdock root is the chain breaker that provides freedom but also strong protection to maintain your independence. At the beginning of spring, stew burdock root in a pot of water. Let it cool and in the morning before sunrise, pour the water over your head and let it run down your body. As you are doing so, ask the spirit of burdock to remove any negativity so that you can have a clean path forward mentally, spiritually and physically.
Hyssop
Hyssop is needed for spiritual cleansing and strengthening in the new season helping to open up spiritual channels for ancestor guidance, discernment and understanding. Hyssop is a sacred herb that helps us connect with the spiritual realm and enhances our spiritual abilities. In the season of spring it is critical to have the support and help of your ancestors to help navigate life challenges and opportunities. Keep it close to you for the entire season. Let the spirit of Hyssop assist you in spiritual communications.
Golden Rod
If the sun were a flower, it would be Golden rod. Use it this spring to help you shine like the sun and rise above any obstacles. Use Golden rod for attracting prosperity, improved fortune and success in the new season. I highly recommend this flower for constructing positive and good things in your life. Keep it close as much as possible so that its spirit can be familiar with yours and better work for you. Additionally, place Golden rod under your pillow every night to speak in your dreams if needed but to also keep its positive influence on your mind.
Deep Hoodoo Cleansing for your space is critical for this season
- This season of spring will be different than any other we've been through with challenges at many levels of our society and personal matters. In Hoodoo we like to be as proactive as possible to help mitigate potential impacts. Spring is typically a time for deeper cleansing but this season of 2026, we need to pull out the big Hoodoo weapons. Here are a few recommendations for you to consider.
- While you are cleaning your home or self, light a candle to represent the spirit of your ancestors, aiding and supporting you in these efforts. I recommend that before you start any type of spiritual cleansing, talk with your ancestors, request their blessing and guidance in the work.
- It’s time to strengthen the protection around your home’s entryway this spring. Put in check harbingers of negative energy before they enter. You can do so by sprinkling salt, red pepper or cinnamon across the threshold of all entry ways including windows. You can do this in homes, apartments or personal space if you live with others.
- Spring is the time to conduct deep spiritual Hoodoo cleansing not only of yourself but home or personal space as well. This can help to control internal and external disruption, negativity and threats to yours and other occupants' wellbeing. Stew burdock root and a little rue together in a pot and use the water to mop or sweep floors, wipe down doorknobs, furniture and area around your altar. You can also make a strong spiritual cleanse for the home with winter green leaves and other mints combined.
- Make a mother root for your space that includes burdock, hyssop and golden rod along with a protection root such as pokeweed or dandelion to empower and keep you safe. The mother root is used to watch over occupants of a space. It is a larger sized root ball. Sit the mother root in an area where the family congregates the most or in your personal space.
- After everything is cleansed, find the center spot of your home/space and at that location, burn a small piece of dragon’s blood to set your spiritual boundary and power of balance. Ask your ancestors to watch over the space and maintain balance, destroy all sources of negative influences that threaten the wellbeing and safety of the space.

Watch Out for These This Spring!
Underhandedness
It's a dog-eat-dog world out there today, especially during this spring. People will work behind your back to take or thwart something you need or want. Be direct, call it as it is, say what you mean and demand the same from others or leave them alone. If their words don't match their actions protect your boundaries.
Two Faced People
Shit-stirrers gain a little influence this season. They will talk to you about someone and turn around and talk about you to that very same person. You destroy a two-faced person by not giving them anything to talk about. Stop telling people your personal business, when dynamics change they will use the information to their advantage. Keep it to yourself.
Fools' Gold
Life can be tricky sometimes sending what appears to be a miracle, relief and solution. Only to find out that it comes with strings attached or setbacks. Be wary of anything that looks too good to be true. Examine it with your mind instead of trusting with your heart. If needed get a spiritual opinion through divination.
False Path's
Spring offers the chance to go in a new direction. It looks legit at the onset but ends up being something totally different. When studying a potential new path place reality over promises. Ask your ancestors to guide you in deciding which way to go. Once again, do divination to help discern the truth.
Hoodoo is Meant to be Personal
Hoodoo is a unique spiritual path and journey that I don’t believe will ever become mainstream. By doing so, much of its heritage, traditions and beliefs are compromised. Once these are diluted, it’s no longer Hoodoo. Mainstream is not its fate, but personal and community empowerment are. It’s greatest power is not fueled by mass appeal but individual awakening to its time-tested wisdom. I’ve learned more about life from Hoodoo than the countless Sunday school lessons of my youth. The independence and freedom it provides is unmatched. The spiritual growth and maturity it nurtures within is unlimited and powerful. Coming into consciousness of my ancestors was like gaining a whole new spiritual support community that always has my best interest. Hoodoo is a beautiful and spiritual adventure that has truly made me who I am.
