Huldah's 2026 Summer Newsletter

Message from Huldah

I hope this shift from spring to summer is treating you well. Summer is nearly here, and I hope you are setting aside special time and activities for yourself. We have a spiritually charged summer ahead hot as a stove eye. When I was a child, we used an old wood stove to heat our home. It grew intensely hot, and even a brief touch could cause a severe burn. My aunt carried scars on her chest after falling against a similar stove. This summer reminds me of that stove. Many people may get burned by drawing too close to beliefs, ideologies, obsessions, situations, or people that should not be embraced. Keep your emotions steady and stay alert, because power struggles at every level of society are becoming dangerous. The ancestors keep warning us not to touch certain things happening around us, yet some will ignore that guidance. This summer will test your spiritual discernment and discipline. Know when to stop before you get burned. This is not the time to play with fire or feed the flames of destructive people. This summer is a time to explore, discover, and connect with your sources of power while also taking practical steps to protect yourself. You can embrace growth and still remain safe.

What Was the Blue Moon Saying?

A student in one of my classes asked about the meaning of the recent blue moon on May 31st. I told them I believe this rare second full moon signals what is ahead this summer. Online sources say it represents expansion and authenticity. I agree in part, but I believe its meaning goes deeper. As stated previously we are entering a spiritually hot summer that will cause many of us to reassess our associations, beliefs and commitments. It will be a time to think, be still and let go of people and things if necessary. The blue moon is ringing an alarm of the coming changes.

Calling on Angry & Ancient Spirits this Summer

You need fire and brimstone to counter the negativity and ill intent of this season. So that you can enjoy the beauty, happiness and abundance summer typically brings. Three powerful traditional Hoodoo spirits can help you with this. They are tried and proven by our ancestors who relied on them for worse times than we see today.
image
Red Pepper, the "Angry One"
The “angry spirit” of nature is Hoodoo staple in traditional Hoodoo providing protection, marking boundaries and repelling negative people, spirits and energies. It’s so strong it can be used by itself! It can be sprinkled as a protection powder in your space, in your shoes and added to other protection works. When combined with a crab claw in a jar it becomes a formidable enemy and protection work.
image
Salt the "Ancient One"
The “ancient spirit” of nature is extremely old and powerful with strong purging, cleansing, protecting, boundary marking and uncrossing proprieties. Like red pepper, salt is so strong it too can be used by itself. Salt can be used to remove root spells off of objects and when included in spiritual cleansing baths can help wash work off the body. Sprinkle in the four corners of the home for protection and boundary marking against negative spirits.
image
Sulfur the other "Ancient One"
Another “ancient spirit” of the earth. Sulfur is used in multiple ways because of its amazing strength. In Hoodoo it used to protect, purge, banish, repel, curse, uncross and is also another boundary marking spirit. Sulfur is highly flammable. Often called the invisible flame because it burns blue and is hard to see in daylight. Sulfur is used sparingly outdoors in the corners of property to repel negative people and trouble. It can be added to a jar with a petition and personal item of the person you would like removed out of a situation.

Open Up Your Path for Better Things

I Recommend a Natural Road Opener for this Summer

Make the best use of the seasons energy

Use this summer for ongoing road-opening work to clear the way for blessings, opportunities, and spiritual growth. Road opening and blockbuster work are closely related, but they are distinct rituals that share the same goal: clearing your path. There are many ways to do road-opening work. Some recommend specific products or candle colors, but I want to step away from commercial Hoodoo and share a traditional approach that is natural, affordable, powerful, and rooted in the practices of our ancestors. Like many traditional methods, it requires effort and repetition. The primary elements of this road-opening ritual are black snakeroot for opening the way and sulfur for blockbuster work. Dried ginger, orange peel, and lemongrass support these main spirits. Along with a candle and a dinner plate, that is all you need. The candle color does not matter; the power is in the flame.

Here's How to Do the Road Opener

We're Using a Powerful Spiritual Root
First, ask your ancestors to bless your efforts to clear the way.Write a petition naming what you want removed from your path.Place the petition in the center of the plate and spit on it. Then set the candle on top of the petition. Surround the candle with dried orange peel, ginger, and lemongrass. Light it with matches only, since the sulfur in the matches becomes part of the ritual. Each strike represents chipping away at the obstacles in your path. Place the used matches in the herbal mixture around the candle. Take the whole piece of black snakeroot and pass it over the candle flame, asking it to help clear your path. Place it on the eastern side of the candle. Repeat this ritual each night until you begin to see results. Try this ritual with consistency and commitment, and it can bring results.

Fifth Annual Hoodoo Doll Exhibit

It's that time of year for celebrating Juneteenth and sharing my latest Hoodoo doll creations. Celebrating during the week of June 19th on my YouTube Channel.
I had a moment of reckoning on YouTube. After I did the "Should We Do Hoodoo on Corporations" video, my channel plummeted. Can't say for sure but I believe I've been shadow banned. I'm not monetized so it's only impacting my views. I believe whom ever is meant to visit my channel will somehow find it. I'm grateful to all of my subscribers and visitors. Please join me this year for celebrating Juneteenth and my Hoodoo dolls. Visit my YouTube channel

Do These Three Things Before Doing a Root Spell

Before doing Hoodoo work, our ancestors first studied the situation, sought guidance from the spiritual realm, and then decided what to do, what to use, and when to do it. Today, many people quickly repeat spells they saw on social media without thought or preparation. Here are three things to do before working a root spell.
Seek the Truth
Set your emotions aside and look honestly at what is happening. That includes being truthful about your own actions and biases. To understand what you are working with, you must be willing to face the truth.
Consult Your Ancestors
Your ancestors are guiding spirits who can help direct you. Before you begin, consult them about the matter and ask them to reveal what you need to understand.
Plan Your Work
Always plan your work in advance: choose the appropriate root spell, the nature spirits, the materials, and the right time and method. Most importantly, decide how you will place your spirit into the work.

Some Interesting Facts About Hoodoo

image
The Power of East to West
In the Hoodoo Intermediate Class for May I taught about the special dynamics between the cardinal directions. Of importance is east to west. They oppose each other and are opposite in spirit while at the same time contributing to wholeness. Such as, where one destroys the other begins. Many old Hoodoo works used this sacred dynamic to halt, confuse or in some root spells to destroy a person. You cannot both curse and bless a person in the same root spell. One is separate from the other. Similarly, some of the old ways believed that a murdered person could not do Hoodoo work because they were too far off balanced, leaning towards the west, making it impossible to manifest anything out the east.

You Have to Speak in Hoodoo
Some people like to use the Bible particularly the Psalms to help speak spirit into their Hoodoo work. Many report great results with this. However, not all use these sacred words. The addition of biblical scripture in Hoodoo works is a later addition after the Christianizing of ancestors during slavery. Early Hoodoo would have more than likely used sacred phrases from African languages. What most people miss is that it’s not the source of written words that holds the power, it’s the spirit that you give the words which matters most. In traditional Hoodoo you have to speak during your work and must know who you are talking to which is usually your ancestors or Creator.

Hoodoo Doesn't Care About Your Religion
Hoodoo is a distinct spiritual system that many believe began as a religion. Unlike many other traditions, it does not center on a pantheon of gods and goddesses. Instead, it draws on nature spirits and forces, ancestors, cosmic powers, and the Creator, much like an animist system that sees spirit in all things. Hoodoo is also not an offshoot of any single African religion, though it reflects a range of African traditions and beliefs. It is a spiritual practice in its own right, not merely folklore as it is often described. For that reason, you can maintain your personal religion and still practice Hoodoo on its own.

Something Amazing Happened in Class!

In our May Hoodoo Basic Training class something organic, natural and fascinating happened that was akin to an ancestral gathering. Typically, in these classes we always enjoy good spiritually mature discussions about Hoodoo. These are usually related to the topics for the lesson but in the May class something unique happened that I really appreciated. At the end of each class I always hang around to answer questions. Yet this time the conversation took a life of it’s own and grew beyond questions. We had a very interesting gathering that featured words of wisdom and insight from students to students. It was beautiful because it was completely organic and authentic. No one was trying to “outshine” or “out talk” the other. Individuals spoke from their heart and with genuine interest for one another. Rarely does this happen these days. Unscripted, naturally flowing, meaningful connections and open-ended questions without the transactional, rigid structured conversations social media pushes. I mostly sat back and listened just appreciating the gathering. I love to hear what people have to say, their perspectives and thoughts and this was an opportunity to do some active listening. When these type conversations are facilitated through a forced agenda they become rigid, often derailing into debates and bickering. May’s class was not this. It was a beautiful and sacred moment of authentic Hoodoo talk that I am forever grateful for having experienced.
