2025 Fall Will Brings a Reality Check for Many

Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. It’s been a hot but beautiful summer. Here we are entering the season of Fall. One of the most misunderstood of the four seasons but that’s okay because in this newsletter we’ll look at several aspects of this season. The wisdom and the work. Fall will bring a quick reality check for many of us, so let's get ready. Go get your favorite hot drink, sit in your comfy chair or bed and let’s take a walk through the season of Fall and some things you can do.

What is Fall & It’s Significance in Hoodoo?

What you need to know about this season
Fall is a time of both harvest and decline. In the physical realm I think of yummy apples, pumpkins and pears to name a few. Also, the time when we gather roots from the ground for storage and usage in our Hoodoo work. Spiritually, it’s a time to turn inwards and reap the harvest of lessons learned from experiences thus far in the year. Decline is the other side of Fall. We see it in nature with the falling leaves, animals and insects gathering food and preparing for the winter. Often, the season will bring a reality check on certain aspects of our life showing us something about ourselves, others, things or places we didn’t see before. The universe and ancestors are definitely at work in this season, helping us to level set and focus on what matters most in our lives. In almost all situations of fall, you have little control over the harvest that comes your way or the decline it brings. Fall is not about overcoming your challenges, it’s about surviving them. Here’s where Hoodoo steps in providing what’s needed to sustain and survive through the challenges of the season.

Laying Down Roots in the Fall

Put your hands to work!
You will face a challenge or two as you go through this coming season in 2025. This is where the power of nature can truly aid you. Roots is the preferred nature spirits because they provide stronger spiritual power. In gardening we usually plant our root crops in the fall of the year when it’s cooler and they need to go dormant over the winter so they can blossom in the spring. This is what we call laying down roots in Hoodoo. We use literal roots of plants and trees to grow a spiritual outcome. This is a condensed explanation, but I will expound and go deeper on laying down roots in the upcoming Hoodoo Intermediate Textbook. Let’s take a look at 3 roots and how you can use them to survive this season.

Three Powerful Helpful Roots for Fall 2025

image
Holy Basil Root
Holy Basil roots can help keep your space spiritually cleansed and your mind focused. When you have a lot going on at once, Holy Basil roots keep you grounded so you don’t make things worse through negative thinking and reactions. You can make a poultice with the root and place on your forehead to calm you down emotionally if you reach a breaking point.
You can find most of these in your backyard or somewhere in the community. Wait until they die down in the fall, usually around November and pull up some of the roots. Clean them off good and dry them.

Kudzu Root
Kudzu root is so strong some claim it helped them overcome their alcoholism. Our ancestors along with other cultures used it to treat heart ailments and diabetes. For this season of Fall use a piece of the dried root the same as you would High John the Conqueror root. Carry it, hold on to it for strength, guidance and power during times when you feel powerless. It will give you the internal drive and power to keep going on no matter what.

Dandelion Root
During this fall of the year, keep a piece of dried dandelion root on the altar or in your sacred space. Because their roots run so deep in the ground it was thought amongst our ancestors that this root feeds into the spiritual realm. During desperate times when you need to hear from your ancestors, add this root as a conduit. It can also help facilitate ancestral protection. Medicinally, it helps with recovery from diseases, improves liver health and allegedly help with cancer.

Hoodoo Inventory Check

Now is the time to take a look at your Hoodoo inventory, materials and supplies. Do you have what you need for the fall and winter seasons? Remember, if your not doing work for the public or a lot of people, you don’t need large quantities of items. If you have the Hoodoo Basic Training Textbook, I taught you about Hoodoo formulas, utilize this information to refine your inventory to what is necessary. This will save you space and money. If you are new to Hoodoo, I encourage you to start with the following three Hoodoo formulas in small jars, ready to use when needed. You can use these to make mojos, smoke baths or in any type root spells for these purposes. These are for external use only.

Healing Hoodoo Formula
Three powerful healing herbs of traditional Hoodoo are combined to help keep you strong and healthy throughout the winter season. Self Heal, Wintergreen leaves and Life Everlasting. You can make a poultice, drink as a tea or sit in jars around your personal space for healing comfort during recovery.

Hoodoo Protection Formula
You can't go wrong with the powerful mix of Dried Chilli Peppers, Rosemary and Kudzu root. You can add a little to your protection mojos and other protection works. Keep a small jar in your home space for protecting the family. You can also place in a little bag to hang around your neck.

Hoodoo Blessing Formula
The fragrant mix of dried Honeysuckles, Osha root, Mace (Nutmeg Membrane) and whole nutmegs will keep the roads open around you. I absolutely love the rich aroma of Mace. Add to your mojos, burn it in smoke rituals or place in open jars around the home for family blessing.

Does Self Heal Grow in Your Area?

While learning about the various plants and trees that grow in your area, check to see if Self Heal is present. Many see it as a weed, but our ancestors knew it to be nature’s little healer both spiritually and physically. For hundreds of years, this small plant has been used to treat many ailments such as chickenpox and shingles. In modern times it’s used to treat herpes, lower high blood pressure, used as a natural heart tonic, and helps with diabetes. It's a ground plant and can be found growing in moist areas and especially in overgrown yards or wooded areas. Self heal is a part of the mint family but doesn’t have a smell. It is known for its hairy leaves and distinct purple flowers. See the pictures for complete description of what this gift from nature looks like. Self heal is used as a regular tonic to keep sickness away and stay healthy. It stimulates the immune system and is antiviral helping to fight viruses and inflammation in the body. How to Use:Add 3-4 tablespoons of the leaves and flowers to a quart of water. Bring to a boil, turn down the heat and let simmer for about 6-7 minutes. Drink a cup 2 times per day as a tonic.

Hoodoo Advice for Fall

The season of fall is a spiritual season. For a brief moment in this season the physical realm and material possessions mean nothing as you are forced to look within your soul. The ancestors are trying to tell you something as they pull you deeper into the realities the season brings. Pay attention, accept the reality check they give you and prepare yourself mentally, spiritually and physically to heed their warning and correct your course. Every time you ignore the ancestor’s warnings, the divide between you and them becomes wider. If you have the new revised Soulful Divination book, you’ll know that the season of fall is your reality check, but the coming season of winter will be your test, through a decision you must make. Keep your spiritual eyes and ears wide open so you don’t miss what the ancestors are trying to tell you during the remainder of this year.
The Hoodoo Intermediate Training Textbook is still in development. However, I will initially only sell it to my newsletter subscribers and Hoodoo Camp meeting members. Also, the 2026 Hoodoo Almanac will be available by the end of October. Thank you for your patience. Until then check out my other books to help build your Hoodoo knowledge and skills.
